Throughout the night we will honor and lift up the lives of those who've fallen victim to this American tragedy while ushering community healing and reslience through art, music and performance. With you, Betti Ono has come so far and we look forward to building a brighter future in community.PERFORMANCE AS RESISTANCE | Powered by Youth Speaks, Zakiya Harris, MJ's Brass Boppers and SOL Development.Through the intersection of arts education and youth development practices, civic engagement strategies, and high quality artistic presentation, Youth Speaks creates safe spaces that challenge young people to find, develop, publicly present, and apply their voices as creators of societal change.Zakiya Harris is a Shapeshifter. She is an afro-eclectic mix of soul, dance and theater. Her music has been compared to the works of Janelle Monáe, Erykah Badu and MIA. Along with her dynamic band Elephantine she seamlessly blends the genres of Soul, Electronica, Hip-Hop and Afro-Beat music within her repertoire.The Bay Area’s only New Orleans style brass band with musicians born and raised in NOLA, San Francisco based MJ’s Brass Boppers is a singing and swinging brass-line ready to party at a drop of a dime.

SOL Development is a Hip-Hop/Jazz/Soul ensemble based out of Oakland California is the soundtrack to the movement for justice, freedom and hope. As both educators and artists Sol Development uses the power of music to help convey positive messages on improving self and improving society.

---EXHIBITION | Betti Ono & Art Responders presents:VIRAL: 25 YEARS FROM RODNEY KINGthru October 22, 2016Art Responders, in collaboration with Betti Ono Gallery presents VIRAL: 25 Years From Rodney King (VIRAL: RK25), a touring exhibition and community arts project offering an immersive visualization of violence in U.S. law enforcement over the past quarter century. Beginning with the LAPD's infamous videotaped assault on Rodney King, the exhibition is structured as a timeline marking numerous cases, public protests, legal developments, and artists' responses to the ongoing epidemic of police brutality. It also provides opportunities for participation, giving audiences the chance to share their views, record their experiences and explore their reactions to this phenomenon.VIRAL: RK25 features more than 80 pieces of visual art, music, video, and interactive games by internationally recognized and emerging artists including Brett Cook, Zeal Harris, Political Gridlock and Emory Douglas.
