Maud Alcorn

Maud is an author, spoken word artist, curator, and facilitator that hails from Oakland, California. She has performed her poetry at La Peña Cultural Center, curated open mics for Black Joy Parade, and facilitated workshops for Mills College, and many more.

She self-published her first book, Black Girl Flesh, in 2020, and has written for publications like Essence, TV Guides, and Plink Magazine.

Her roots are deep rooted in multiple communities in Oakland, and in 2019, she co-founded Gold Beams, an organization focused on the expansion and opportunities of Black artists in the Bay Area.

In her down time, she enjoys painting, ceramics, and creating art with a multitude of fiber materials. Directly prior to joining Betti Ono, Maud founded her own design agency, Eclectic fruit, where she helped build branding for small businesses around the country.

Maud is excited to continue doing the work that makes her heart smile at the Betti Ono Foundation. From curating art exhibits, to helping the youth find their voice through their artwork, she knows that she is given yet another opportunity to build power through culture.
